Nasra Wehelie
Founder & Strategist, Empathy 4 Impact®

Nasra Wehelie is a respected public servant, nonprofit leader, and governance strategist whose career spans nonprofit leadership, education advocacy, workforce development, and municipal governance. She is known for bringing clarity, accountability, and empathy to complex systems, helping organizations strengthen both their mission and their impact.
Nasra’s leadership cannot be separated from who she is. As a Muslim, Black, Somali immigrant woman, she carries lived experience that shapes how she understands power, belonging, and institutional systems. These intersecting identities are not labels she carries; they are lenses that sharpen her awareness and deepen her leadership.

Nasra served as an Alder on the Madison Common Council, where she held leadership roles on the Economic Development Committee, Equal Opportunity Commission, County–City Homeless Issues Committee, Sustainable Madison Committee, and the Wisconsin League of Municipalities Board. Her public governance work reflects a deep commitment to equitable policy, responsible stewardship of public resources, and community-centered decision-making.

In the nonprofit sector, Nasra has provided long-standing board leadership to strengthen organizational governance and sustainability. She serves as a Board Member and HR Chair of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, where she supports executive leadership, workforce strategy, and youth-centered outcomes. She is a Board Trustee of Madinah Academy of Madison. Nasra also served on the Board of the UW–Madison Morgridge Center for Public Service, helping advance civic engagement and community-based learning.

Her leadership in educational sectors includes service on the Wisconsin State Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council during Tony Evers’ tenure, as well as nearly a decade on the Madison Metropolitan School District Superintendent’s Human Relations Advisory Council. Through these roles, she elevated parent voice, student equity, and systemic accountability in public education.

Nasra’s Women’s empowerment and economic development experience includes advisory roles with the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC), the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce Small Business Advisory Council, and her leadership as Business Development Director for Wisconsin Women Entrepreneurs. She brings a strong background in human resources, organizational culture, and leadership development, supported by MBA training.

A recognized community leader, Nasra has received honors including YWCA Madison Woman of Distinction, Wisconsin’s 51 Most Influential Black Leaders, Just Dane Partners for Change Visionary Award, and Brava Magazine Women to Watch. Across all sectors, she is guided by a simple principle: strong organizations require alignment between purpose, people, policy, and performance.
